New Music of the Day – LXIII : A Berry Bursts – twin hidden

FS6-TZ1LfQ1EztSr1XfZk3oMO7Kj7E5KPhHVMQFeGeYTwin Hidden is the brainchild of Matthew Shribman and Sam Lea. Performing comfortably as a two piece or as a larger, rotating group of musicians, this pair of best friends have spent the last year cementing their roles as multi-instrumentalists, producers and precociously talented songwriters. Very much a simultaneously all-in but DIY approach, they’ve proven adept at re-creating the sound in their heads, and getting that down to tape.

Following on from the brilliant, ethereal debut single “Join Hands”, that saw extensive blog support across Europe and the US for the London/Oxford duo, comes the colourful, sweet “A Berry Bursts”. Already a live favourite amongst the growing Twin Hidden canon, the song showcases another strong and memorable vocal melody from Matthew and a musicality and playfulness that crosses between art-rock and smart-pop effortlessly.

Taking influence from, and sounding a little like an accidental mix of, Everything Everything, Sufjan Stevens and tUnE yArDs, “A Berry Bursts” will build further foundations for a group with ideas in abundance.

“Honestly, awesome.” – GOING SOLO

“like Django Django or Super Furry Animals as filtered through Sigur Rós at their most ebullient.” – STEREOGUM
