Halasana Girl – Darshae Kiér (reviewed by Dave Franklin)

darshaeThere is something wonderfully infectious about the Reggaetron grooves and easy rhythms that ooze out of Darshae Kiér ’s latest release. Reggae has always had a back end sound which is hard to not be beguiled by and the dance floor has always been driven by beats which make you want to move. Halasana Girl sits at the perfect point where both those styles meet.

It is polished off with electro-pop sounds which weave through and pull everything together and Kier’s R&B infused voice proves to be the icing on the cake. It is chilled and relaxed but that just makes things even more compelling. It is the knowing, sultry swagger of the song which makes it more attractive than the wall of noise emanating from most nightclubs. Let such places keep their frantic beats and big sonic drama, Kiér’s music is smarter than that. He knows that their is power in sounding natural, chilled and relaxed, like you are hardly trying.

After all what’s more sexy, the potential lover who is trying too hard and making it obvious of their intentions or the mysterious stranger not even looking your way and who just exudes cool from every move that they make? Halasana Girl is just such a mysterious stranger, the one you fell in love with from the moment you laid eyes on.
