Saint Agnes release ‘Diablo, Take Me Home’ ahead of tour

mailAfter a run of festival dates in the UK and Europe this summer including a mainstage appearance at Kendal Calling, Saint Agnes release live favourite ‘Diablo, Take Me Home’. Onstage they declare “We are Saint Agnes. We are a rock band.” and in doing so are re-claiming the word ‘rock’ and redefining it for the 21st century. They are the leather jacket wearing, chain smoking, hard rocking siblings to bands like Starcrawler and Black Honey, seemingly raised on a diet of fuzz guitar riffs and hopeless tales of murder. A chemistry reminiscent of The Kills sets them apart with sparks flying between frontwoman Kitty Arabella Austen and co-lead Jon James Tufnell as they trade riffs and vocals with an intense fury highlighted by the raw, analogue production.

Among their consistent releases the band have been relentlessly touring in the UK and across Europe, spending weeks at a time fearlessly preaching their rock n’ roll gospel and converting all who see them to their own Coven. Kitty’s fearless live performances set a new standard for what it is to be a woman in a rock band in 2018.

New single ‘Diablo, Take Me Home’, the band tell us, “is about the conscious decision to escape. Our generation have a (legitimate) sense of hopelessness about the future. The main lyric is a metaphor for giving yourself over to your immediate desires, letting the devil on your shoulder guide you and throwing yourself into the hands of fate. Fuck tomorrow, give me more of today. This song is a battlecry for a screwed generation. We recorded live in a room to 2” tape, no computers, no messing around”

BRAND NEW VIDEO: ‘A Beautiful Day For Murder’

LABEL: ENERGY SNAKE RECORDS

securedownload-1Cinematic psych outfit Saint Agnes have released their new single, ‘A Beautiful Day for Murder’ via visceral London Label Energy Snake Records. The track is a twisted ballad; a love song to death itself. ‘It’s the soundtrack to a dark and beautiful Western where Lana Del Ray stares down nick Cave in a saloon bar stand-off’ says founding member Kitty Austen, who fronts the band with Jon Tufnell. After releasing their debut single as a duo and packing out The Sebright Arms in suitably raucous fashion, the pair return with a trademark slice of cinematic, Tarantino-style lushness.

B-side ‘Where the Lightning Strikes’ is blues stomping, dirty rock n roll with psychedelic organs, screaming guitars and haunting harmonica. ‘Imagine Ennio Morricone writing the score for a remake of Easy Rider.’

Jon and Kitty met whilst playing in their respective bands (The Lost Souls Club & Lola Colt) and immediately bonded over musical influences. Their onstage chemistry is palpable and they are now joined by Matt Devine and Ben Chernett, the no-nonsense bass and drums powerhouse who dress as sharply as The Bad Seeds.

Saint Agnes are very much a DIY band and like fellow psych-collective Temples, record and produce their own music in their East London studio and have directed both upcoming music videos.

Saint Agnes single launch show

securedownload-1 Cinematic psych duo Saint Agnes are set to release their brand new single Old Bone Rattle on June 10th through London based Energy Snake Records (home of Vuvuvultures) and play Hackney’s The Sebright Arms to celebrate the occasion.

Raw, bold and sultry, the title track showcases the band’s trademark Ennio Morricone rock n’ roll style, trippy Western inspired psychedelic-rock in its purest form. The B-side sees the pair – Jon Tufnell of The Lost Souls Club and Lola Colt’s Kitty Austen – duet on a cover of The Doors’ Roadhouse Blues.

Jon and Kitty met at a gig whilst playing in their respective bands and quickly bonded over their mutual love of Nick Cave and Jack White. In Kitty’s East London flat they experimented with ghostly guitar reverb, swirling Hammond organ and dirty blues harmonica, the result is brooding psycha-western no-nonsense rock n’ roll at its best; think Black Rebel Motorcycle Club with Ray Manzarek on keys and Kills-esque dual vocals.
